Supermoon

On November 13, people noticed that the moon looked different. In fact, it was the biggest and brightest the moon has been in the last 68 years. Scientists call this rare event a supermoon, or a Beaver Moon. There are many conspiracies about the end of the world when a supermoon appears in the sky.

The moons orbit is slightly elliptical, so sometimes the Earth moves closer or far away. A supermoon happens when the moon is full and comes closest to the Earth. When the moon is closest to the Earth, it is 14% closer to Earth then when the moon is the farthest from the Earth. When the supermoon appears in the sky, it is way brighter than usual. In fact, it is 30% brighter than a regular moon.

There are many conspiracies about the supermoon. One of the conspiracies is about the super blood moon. People believe that this is the beginning of doomsday. Blood Moon is sometimes used to describe a Total Lunar Eclipse. When the Earth casts its shadow on a Full Moon and eclipses it, the Moon gets a red glow. A super blood moon happens when the moon is closest to Earth when it is a full moon and it is having a Total Lunar Eclipse. When the supermoon comes around, many major events happen. An appearance comes as work is underway on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, considered to be the location of Jesus’s tomb. That leads some people to believe that the supermoon is leading to the completion of the bible.

Hi Andrew,
A great post. Did you take any photos yourself of the supermoon?

I am sorry but something in your settings doesn’t allow the post to be flipped to our magazine. You might need to have your teacher check that on the class blog the settings allow search engines.
